Renowned artist Nicki Minaj publicly restated her backing for Donald Trump during a Republican campaign gathering in Michigan on Sunday. Appearing alongside the former president, Minaj expressed her commitment to his political endeavors, indicating she would support him again should he seek another term. The event in Port Huron was part of Trump's campaign efforts for Republican Senate hopeful Mike Rogers and gubernatorial candidate John James.
Addressing the crowd, Minaj conveyed her esteem for the former president. "President Trump, it is an honor to stand with you every single time," she stated. "And I will continue to support you forever and ever. If you run again, I will support you again." While Trump is currently serving his second term, the 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution restricts any individual from being elected to the presidency more than twice.
The Grammy-nominated hip-hop icon has increasingly vocalized her support for Trump. Recently, she participated as a celebrity judge for the Small Business Administration's Million Dollar Pitch Competition. She articulated her admiration for Trump's leadership to attendees, saying, "I am so honored to be working with this president. He represents resilience. Since he's come back, he's changed the energy of our country. And he's given us a future to look forward to, a brighter future for us and our children." She concluded this sentiment by adding, "I love him so much."
Advocating for Republican Candidates and Social Stances
Beyond her personal endorsement, Minaj encouraged voters to support Republican candidates in the upcoming midterm elections. The party is actively pursuing victories in two significant Michigan contests. She characterized the approaching vote as a "major turning point for our country," emphasizing the necessity of electing these individuals. "We really need all of these great people to be elected," Minaj asserted.
Minaj also touched upon sensitive topics related to transgender issues and children. She questioned the appropriateness of certain discussions, stating, "We don't want our children to be bombarded with sex changes, right? We don't want that for our children. We want people to leave the children alone. Leave them out of it."
Trump's Introduction and Praise
Before inviting Minaj to speak, Trump introduced her to the audience as the "queen of rap." He then light-heartedly remarked about being overshadowed by her presence. "I don't like being overshadowed," Trump quipped. "And this woman overshadows me, and I'm angry about it."
As the crowd enthusiastically cheered for Minaj, the former president observed their reaction, noting, "They're going crazy over her." Following her remarks, Trump reiterated his commendation for the artist. "You see why everybody likes Nicki," he said, adding, "She is a very, very special person. She gets it."
Steven Cheung, who serves as White House communications director, also commented on Minaj's growing engagement in political discourse. In a post on X, he playfully suggested her for a prominent role, writing, "Ladies and gentlemen, I think we may have found the new White House press secretary! @NICKIMINAJ."
