Transgender Neo-Nazi Accused of Plotting Mass Shooting at Illinois Hindu Temple, Officials Say

A 19-year-old from Palatine, Illinois, who reportedly identified as a neo-Nazi, has been accused by authorities of plotting a mass shooting at a Hindu temple located in Aurora, a suburb of Chicago. Police confirmed that a crucial tip from a coworker enabled law enforcement to prevent the intended attack.

Alexandros Paporakis was taken into custody on Sunday following allegations of planning to open fire at the Hindu temple, according to information released by Palatine Police during a press conference on Thursday.

Paporakis is now facing felony charges, including one count of making a terrorist threat and one count of unlawful possession of a weapon.

A Cook County judge has ordered Paporakis to be held without bond. The court also issued a jailhouse healthcare directive, confirming that the teenager receives hormone injections as part of gender transition and is undergoing treatment for ADHD, depression, and anxiety, as reported by NBC Chicago.

Details of the Alleged Plot

Prosecutors contend that Paporakis drove to the Hindu temple in Aurora equipped with a modified rifle, approximately 300 rounds of ammunition, body armor, and other tactical gear. Authorities stated that Paporakis intended to carry out a shooting but ultimately returned home after the rifle reportedly malfunctioned.

Upon returning home, the suspect allegedly conducted internet searches to learn how to unjam the firearm and subsequently contacted a colleague, informing them of the intention to commit a mass shooting, according to police accounts.

Intervention and Arrest

Paporakis' coworkers at a Taco Bell establishment reported receiving a suspicious message from the individual that day to Mount Prospect Police. This tip prompted law enforcement to secure a search warrant and apprehend Paporakis before the suspect could reportedly return to the temple to execute the alleged attack.

Authorities publicly commended the individual who reported the threat, emphasizing the importance of community vigilance. They urged others who encounter suspicious activities to promptly inform law enforcement.

I want to praise and offer my personal, sincerest thanks to the individual who stepped forward in many successful disruptions by law enforcement and potential acts of violence or terrorism attacks. It is a single, courageous member of the public who comes forward to prevent attacks,

stated Lucas Rothaar, acting special agent in charge of the FBI Chicago Field Office, during the Thursday press conference.

Evidence and Ideology Uncovered

Following the initial tip, police identified a red Acura registered to Paporakis. Surveillance footage captured the suspect's vehicle entering the Hindu temple's parking lot at 12:25 p.m., departing a few minutes later.

Paporakis was later observed driving to a residence on Rand Road in Palatine, which is shared with the suspect's mother. During the execution of a search warrant, police discovered a rifle, a loaded magazine, hundreds of rounds of rifle ammunition, and other tactical gear in Paporakis' possession.

Law enforcement also located what they described as an eight-page manifesto. Authorities indicated that this document detailed the planned attack and articulated Paporakis' white supremacist views.
