Sunny Hostin Invokes Prosecutor Past After Son Cited for Railroad Trespassing

"The View" co-host Sunny Hostin reportedly reminded law enforcement officials of her background as a "former federal prosecutor" after her son, a Harvard graduate, was detained for trespassing on Metro-North railroad property. Body camera video, recently made public, captured Hostin urging officers to show leniency.

Upon arriving at the scene, Hostin articulated her son's circumstances to the officers. "That's my son. He's a Harvard graduate. He doesn't have a criminal record," she stated. "He's not a kid who's ever in trouble. It's an innocent mistake."

Police reports indicate that her son was found trespassing in an area clearly marked with "NO TRESPASSING" signs. Given his lack of a criminal history and cooperation with the officers, he was issued a summons for trespass and subsequently released.

Incident on Metro-North Property

The body camera footage also shows Hostin's son, Gabriel Hostin, inquiring whether the issuance of a summons was truly necessary. An officer responded, clarifying the gravity of the situation: "Because it is an arrestable offense. I want to make that clear."

The officer further explained the decision to issue a summons rather than pursue a more severe charge: "We're dimming it down to a trespass violation because you were in the right-of-way." The officer noted that the police were considering his clean record. "We know you're not a criminal or anything like that, but our hands are tied with cameras everywhere," the officer added.

Hostin again pressed the officers to use their discretion, reiterating her son's character and accomplishments. "He's a Harvard grad who teaches fourth-grade geometry to South Bronx kids," she emphasized. "He's not a kid who's ever in trouble. It's an innocent mistake."

The citation narrative corroborates that officers observed him on the railroad's right-of-way. Following a warrant check that yielded no outstanding issues, he was issued an appearance ticket for trespass.

Records related to the incident include photographs of warning signs, prominently displaying "NO TRESPASSING – PRIVATE PROPERTY – VIOLATORS WILL BE PROSECUTED," positioned near the property's entrance. Images of the gated access point were also part of the documentation.

According to court documents, Gabriel Hostin is scheduled for an appearance in New Rochelle City Court on July 31.

In a letter obtained by TMZ, Hostin provided an explanation for her son's presence on the property, asserting that he mistakenly entered while jogging. She claimed he was looking for a gravel incline suitable for hill training. She further stated that the entrance gate was open and that the sole "No Trespassing" sign was affixed to the left gate, rendering it invisible to him upon entry.
