A woman in Ohio has initiated legal proceedings against a hospital and its surgical team, alleging that a scheduled below-the-knee amputation of her right leg, necessitated by cancer, resulted in the removal of her left leg instead.
Sharon Jacks, who has since become a double amputee, was admitted to Selby General Hospital in Marietta, Ohio, on September 19, 2025, for the planned removal of her right leg below the knee. However, according to court documents, she awoke from surgery to discover her left leg had been amputated.
