Kristin Cavallari Reveals Children Fly Coach While She Enjoys First Class Travel
The reality television personality shared her approach to teaching her children financial responsibility and the value of hard work during a recent podcast appearance.

Kristin Cavallari recently disclosed a parenting decision concerning air travel that has drawn comparisons to a similar situation involving another public figure. Speaking on the "Aspire with Emma Grede" podcast, the 39-year-old reality television star emphasized her approach to raising her children, stating that she believes in teaching them the value of effort. She explained that she does not provide her children with an easy path in life, asserting that "if they want something, they have to work for it."
Cavallari elaborated on her reasoning, highlighting her awareness of her children's privileged upbringing. "I try to be very hyper-aware of that because they are growing up in a very fortunate situation and I want them to know this is my money, this is not your money," she stated. She offered a specific example of this philosophy in practice: "Something as small as they fly coach I'm flying in first class. That was important to me when they became old enough."
She lightheartedly added that with her children now old enough to be trusted unsupervised on a plane without squabbling, it has become simpler for her to separate from them, remarking, "Bye guys, have fun back there."
This candid revelation resonated positively with many fans, who expressed admiration for Cavallari's approach to solo luxury travel while her children occupy economy class. One comment on YouTube praised her, saying, "She's a real one for flying her kids coach while she is in first class haha."
Cavallari is a mother to three children with her former husband, Jay Cutler: sons Camden, aged 13, and Jaxon, aged 12, along with daughter Saylor, aged 10.
Reflecting on Divorce and Business Success
During the same podcast discussion, the star of "The Hills" also touched upon her divorce from Cutler, to whom she was married from 2013 to 2022. She attributed her "confidence to leave my marriage" to the significant success of her jewelry and skincare enterprise, Uncommon James.
She found the financial implications of the divorce particularly noteworthy. "Which is interesting because if I didn't have Uncommon James, I could have taken half of his money, right? But because I had this company, there was a really large asset on our balance sheet," she explained. Cavallari further clarified, "I didn't get anything, which I'm so happy about now. But I don't get any money from my ex-husband. I had to give him half the value of Uncommon James in cash and properties and everything else. Yeah. Isn't that interesting?"
Jessica Simpson's Similar Travel Situation
Cavallari's recent comments follow a period when singer Jessica Simpson publicly defended her own choice to travel in first class alongside her mother, but without her children and her then-husband, Eric Johnson.
Details of Simpson's first-class journey emerged after her former husband, Nick Lachey, who happened to be on the same flight, disclosed the information during a May appearance on "Watch What Happens Live!"
Lachey recounted the experience, stating, "I believe her kids and her — I’m not familiar with where they stand, but — her husband, maybe, were on the plane but not with us." He subsequently confirmed that Simpson's family members were "in a separate class of service."
Later that month, when approached by paparazzi at the airport regarding Lachey's remarks, Simpson offered clarification, explaining, "My mom bought those tickets. It was my mom’s treat for us to go to Hawaii."
Simpson has three children with her husband: Maxwell, aged 14, Ace, aged 12, and Birdie, aged 7.
