Florida Woman Allegedly Denies Knowledge of Cocaine Found in Her "Jail Purse" at Detention Facility

A woman held in a Florida detention facility reportedly expressed surprise when a baggie containing cocaine allegedly fell from her person during a search, after a scanner detected an anomaly.

Initial Arrest and Jail Intake

Reagan Cox was initially taken into custody by the Brevard County Sheriff's Office following a traffic stop, facing a charge of resisting an officer without violence. The specific reason for the initial stop was not detailed in the report.

The situation escalated upon her arrival at the jail. During the intake process, a body scanner identified an irregularity in what Sheriff Wayne Ivey later referred to in a social media post about the alleged incident as her "Jail Purse."

Contraband Discovery and Denial

Sheriff Ivey's social media statement detailed the subsequent events: "Our Corrections Deputies moved Cox to a change out room where she was observed trying to cover her buttocks area with her hand. After moving her hand, a baggie dropped to the floor containing approximately 3.8 grams of cocaine!!"

According to authorities, Cox claimed "she knew nothing about the drugs." She then allegedly suggested that someone "must have put it in there during an 'intimate encounter!!'"

Additional Charges and Sheriff's Warning

The veracity of her explanation regarding how the illicit substance entered the facility will likely be a matter for future court proceedings, as Cox now faces an additional criminal count. In addition to the resisting arrest charge, she was also cited for introduction of contraband into a detention facility.

Sheriff Ivey concluded his social media message with a cautionary note for the public. He stated, "Folks, if not realizing that someone left cocaine in your 'Jail Purse,' is not a good enough reminder to not do drugs, then I don’t know what is!!"
