Bubba Watson Confronts Disruptive Spectator During LIV Golf Indianapolis Tournament

During the second round of LIV Golf Indianapolis at The Club at Chatham Hills, professional golfer Bubba Watson decided to engage directly with a fan whose repeated shouting had become a nuisance, creating a noticeable scene on the course.

Watson, who was competing alongside Lee Westwood and Bryson DeChambeau on the second day of the LIV season finale, was captured on video approaching a spectator. The fan had been heard repeatedly shouting while Westwood was in the process of preparing for his approach shot.

The individual loudly called out, "Bryson, Bryson," prompting Westwood to step away from his ball. At this point, Watson walked over to the fan. The two-time Masters champion challenged the boisterous spectator to repeat their remarks directly to him, but the fan notably remained silent.

"Oh, you don’t want to say anything now? Say something, I'm looking at ya, say it," Watson stated to the fan.

Watson concluded his Friday round with a 2-under 68, positioning himself in contention—a situation that has been somewhat infrequent for the 47-year-old throughout the current season.

Watson's Season Performance

Prior to this week's event, Watson had managed only one top-10 finish across his 11 starts on the breakaway golf circuit in 2026. Additionally, the left-handed golfer did not make the cut in his sole major championship appearance of the season, which occurred at The Masters in April.

Challenges Facing LIV Golf

While a fan's ill-timed shouting certainly warrants criticism, it represents a minor concern compared to the more significant challenges currently confronting LIV Golf.

In April, the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) announced its intention to cease funding LIV Golf beyond the 2026 season. In the subsequent weeks, the LIV organization made several notable changes: it canceled the LIV Team Championship scheduled for Michigan, advanced the season finale to the current Indianapolis event, and significantly reduced the individual prize purse for the finale from $20 million to $10.1 million.

The golf circuit is also embroiled in a legal dispute with Fresh Tape Media. The company is reportedly suing LIV for $1.2 million, alleging unpaid dues and accumulated interest stemming from its work producing LIV's preseason media days.

Future Outlook for the Tour

Earlier this month, LIV CEO Scott O'Neil disclosed that an undisclosed investor had been secured, which is expected to provide financial stability for LIV Golf into 2027. Specific details regarding this new investor have not yet been publicly shared.

Despite these challenges, the circuit has outlined plans for what it refers to as 'LIV 2.0.' This new iteration is expected to involve players holding a majority equity stake in the organization. The revised strategy also includes a schedule of 10 total tournaments, with five events slated to take place within the United States and the remaining five to be held internationally.
